My Poem: Never Forever
From the moment I started rolling my tube socks I knew one thing was real I fell in love with you A love so deep I gave you my all From my mind & body To my spirit & soul Deeply in love with you I never saw the end of the tunnel I only saw myself I gave you my heart Because it came with so much more I did everything for YOU Because that’s what you do When someone makes you feel as Alive as you’ve made me feel I’ll always love you But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer This is all I have left to give My heart can take the pounding But my mind knows it’s time to say goodbye And that’s OK I’m ready to let you go So we both can savor every moment we have left together The good and the bad We have given each other All that we have As we both know No matter what I’ll always be that kid With the rolled up socks Found Poem: http://www.theplayerstribune.com/dear-basketball/ Dear Basketball, From the moment I started rolling my dad’s tube socks And shooting imaginary Game-winning shots In the Great Western Forum I knew one thing was real: I fell in love with you. A love so deep I gave you my all -- From my mind & body To my spirit & soul. As a six-year-old boy Deeply in love with you I never saw the end of the tunnel. I only saw myself Running out of one. And so I ran. I ran up and down every court After every loose ball for you. You asked for my hustle I gave you my heart Because it came with so much more. I played through the sweat and hurt Not because challenge called me But because YOU called me. I did everything for YOU Because that’s what you do When someone makes you feel as Alive as you’ve made me feel. You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream And I’ll always love you for it. But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer. This season is all I have left to give. My heart can take the pounding My mind can handle the grind But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye. And that’s OK. I’m ready to let you go. I want you to know now So we both can savor every moment we have left together. The good and the bad. We have given each other All that we have. And we both know, no matter what I do next I’ll always be that kid With the rolled up socks Garbage can in the corner :05 seconds on the clock Ball in my hands. 5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1 Love you always, Kobe Found Poem I believe change is inevitable Everyone goes through phases Everyone has different experiences It comes down towards motivation How motivated are you to do better? Do you have confidence in yourself? To keep trying and learn to do better? Be more creative This I Believe I believe that change is an inevitable process. Everyone goes through phases and everyone has different experiences. Back to when I was in high school I was one of those kids that just wanted to get by. I think that I didn’t have any confidence in myself. For any test or quiz or whatever I already had this precognitive notion that I wasn’t smart enough. I remember the times that I would get home from school and my mom would find out about my test scores and chew me out for which felt like days. Always having the statement that she knew that I could do better. It wasn’t until I believe my junior and senior year that I realized what she said was true. I think it comes down towards motivation. How motivated are you to do better and do you have the confidence in yourself to keep trying and learn to do better? For me it was the kick in the @$$ by my mom that put me in my place and by doing this it changed my mindset (see brought it all back). I believe that now I have a growth mindset. I like making comic books, but I don’t limit myself to just doing dudes wearing capes. I like making comic books about monsters like the ‘Swamp Thing’ and ‘Frankenstein’ or dark gritty stories like The Dark Knight Returns, Daredevil: The Devil Inside and Out and, Death in the Family to comedies like Deadpool, Archer, Quantum and Woody and, Howard the Duck. This allows me to vary and be more creative hopping from genre to genre dealing with a bevy of different characters with a bevy of different personalities. This is my week 12 reflection about my 4 reflection but with scenes…. dun...dun...dunnnn… so let us begin. I had a pretty decent week. We’re trucking along in my 120 Math course working with the chapter 1 and 2 stuff and I am working on my art project which I’m not necessarily fond of because when I’m drawing I like to do my own thing. In English we learned about the difference between having a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. We watched clips about the difference between the two and the responses that people with growth and fixed mindsets have in certain situations. One video that was shown to us gave the example that people with a growth mindset believes that intelligence grows, values effort, and typically works harder while people with a fixed mindset believe intelligence is always the same, they tend to procrastinate and want to look smart instead of going through the process of learning. It is possible to be in between but studies have shown that being a person with a growth mindset will do better in school. This also means that someone with a fixed mindset can become someone with a growth mindset. It is possible and more likely that most people are somewhere I the middle. Outside of school I say that I had an okay week. Typically, during weekends, I like to go and see a movie. This week me and a group of my friends went to go see the Green Inferno. There was about 8 of us going which seems like a lot, but there was not a lot of people in the theatre anyway. So including us I would say that there was around 20 possibly less that were in the theatre. It has those typical things you expect from a modern day horror movie. Bad acting, a boring and predictable plot and so on and so forth. The only thing that made this movie memorable was probably the deaths. They were so outrageous and gruesome that I think the only reason I remember this movie is because it is probably one of the most gruesome films I have ever watched and I have watched a lot of movies, it’s what I do because that’s basically my weekend. So the freakishly grotesque deaths of these characters will probably be ingrained into my brain forever. Basically the plot was that this girl joins this activist group that want to save the tree forest and some area of land for a tribe in South America. But oh wait after their plane crashes in the middle of the forest and they are taken in by this tribe. You can probably see where I’m going with this, but they are taken in by the tribe, but we quickly find out that this is a tribe of crazy sacrificing cannibals. This movie had all of that typical stuff you see in horror movies but it did successfully the jump scares and things that were cringe worthy pretty down pat. That were a lot of gory scenes in the movie. Looking around in the theater every once in a while people would do the pose where they have their one hand that is all half assed and covering their face. While they are still peeking through their fingertips, refusing to look away from the screen. We watched a late night screening because of the pope visit which basically turned into popeageddon. Basically Philly and the Philly surrounding areas were all on lockdown like it’s a sequel to Kurt Russell’s Escape from New York or the highly anticipated sequel to that Escape from Los Angeles. Philly has been ticketing like crazy as a way to keep the streets clear when the pope comes. Also this weekend I watched the Eagles game where they barely hung on till the very end. There was a lot of dropped passes and the offense still looked out of sync even though they were going up against the Jets. Our defense was pretty good forcing a couple turnovers. Whether that was luck or not I don’t know but I think the Pope coming to Philadelphia was a good luck charm. Just seeing that Brandon Marshall play kind of shown that freak plays and luck might have been on our side. Maybe the scary blood moon gave us some luck? That blood moon looked creepy though. I’m not about that sketchy red moon in the sky. Makes me think that I’ll get attacked by a vampire Wesley Snipes or something. I don’t know, but to conclude that was my week in a nutshell.
Familiar Place
During my typical Sunday especially is that I walk a couple houses down the block to my uncle’s house to watch the Eagles game. Usually it’s a thing that me, my dad, my uncle and two of my cousins who live a couple blocks over, do where we watch the Eagles game. This week my one cousin had to work and the other was out of town in New Jersey doing whatever, so this week it was just me, my dad and my uncle which didn’t last long because I was pretty tired the night before because I the dark abyss of dirt and filth and clothes which is also known as my room I was binge watching Jessica Jones all Saturday night. I stopped late at the episode of Jessica Jones where they blew up the old lady. Yeah, that happened. So this brings me to that Sunday Morning where I wake up. The first thought that comes to my mind is the Jessica Jones series because I have been binge watching all night the previous night before. I flick on the tv to see what was on. It was around 10 o’clock, 10:30 when I actually got up. So I get up go down the steps to go the bathroom, washroom or whatever people call it to wash my face, brush my teeth and do the typical bathroom routine. Then I go back up the to my room and when I go up in the corner of my eye I see my book bag and my green math binder sticking out about a corner of an inch. I look at it for a split second and during that split second the thought of me finishing the 4.3 math homework that I started on Friday, but because I’m just a super lazy person I decided not to. So I get up into my room and I get dressed with the random clothes I find and pick up off the floor because after watching the Eagles game the week before where they lost to the Miami Dolphins I wasn’t really looking forward to watching the game with the Tampa Bay Bucs’ but for me being the dumb Eagles fan as I am I got my hopes up and fooled myself into believing they’ll do well this week. So I got up got a bowl of Trix and sat in the living room and my dad’s cheap ghetto couch and watched tv for a couple of hours. This was around noon and I was so entrenched watching The Leftovers and X-Men Days of Futures Past that I lost track of time and it was about 2 o’clock. I sat on that couch for about 5 minutes before I decided to get my butt up and go over to my uncle’s house to entertain the thought that the Eagles would be doing well. I put on my hoodie and headed out the door which I shouldn’t have done, I should have kept my ass back inside because the weather was brisk. I don’t say brisk often and when I say often I actually mean ever. I am walking to my uncle’s house which is 3 houses over, but it felt like I was walking for an eternity. When I was walking over I looked across the street and in front of my house is a lot and I saw a lone squirrel with his creepy beady eyes crawling up a tree and the random thought that those creepy bastards probably enjoy this cold weather. In about 20 seconds I get to my uncle’s house and go up the steps to go through the front door and I asked my uncle if my dad was there and he wasn’t and said he said that my dad was at the store. I figured that my dad was at the grocery store getting pork chops because he said he’s been having a craving for those for a while. I asked about the Eagles and if they were doing well, but I had this feeling that they were doing terribly and they were because when I looked at the screen they were getting blown out by a team that was the worst in the league last year. My uncle’s hair was disheveled from what I could see because he had a Bermuda cap over his hair. He had this look of disappointment. He only said the few words, “the Eagles suck man” that made me turn around and head back home. The rest of my day was me watching Jessica Jones on my shitty laptop for the rest of the day. Strange Place My Halloween. I actually wasn’t going to do anything for Halloween because I believe that I’m an adult, but my friend Joe was throwing a small Halloween party and I didn’t want to be that guy that said that he couldn’t because I was busy even though I wasn’t busy and doing anything and I didn’t want to lie. This was around 6 or 7 o’clock so it was pretty late and I didn’t have a costume. I’m like, “Fuck, I don’t have a costume and I’m panicking (but not really) about not having a costume because I don’t want to be that dude that goes to a costume party without a costume because that’s kind of an asshole thing to do. So I texted a couple friends of mine who was also going to the party and asked if they had costumes, they did but wanted to go to a costume store to get gloves and other props. So three of my friends meet up and we all pack together in my friend’s Acura and we head on out to the Spirit Halloween Superstore on Baltimore Pike. We get there and It’s like 7:30, 8 o’clock and the place looks baron. Like a hurricane came through or something. There was a small but decent amount of costumes there but not much for variety. A lot of the comic book, Star Wars type of costumes were gone. So I look and look and can’t find anything that gives me interest at all because a lot of the stuff left over were just typical generic costumes. My buddy keeps telling me to just get a mask like a werewolf mask or those creepy killer or zombie masks, but when you put that stuff over your head and on your face it gets really hot on there. On the way there I was thinking about going as Finn or otherwise known as that black dude in the new Star Wars movie. I just didn’t want a costume that would make me feel like I was in a sauna if I was in it. I went over to the right section of the store and scoured this side for costume ideas and I looked and saw that mixed in with some of the generic knight and archer costumes that was right across from the empty Star Wars, and barely existent comic book outfits was a Game of Thrones costume with the Night Watch cloak. I call my buddy over and asked him what did he think of this because going as one if not the most popular character in Game of Thrones Jon Snow would be a good idea. I technically already have the beard and all I would need would be the cloak and a wig and I would be set. My buddy then dropped the bomb that our friend Joe who was throwing the party was already going as Jon Snow from Game of Thrones. Well shit, was the first thought that went through my head, what was I going to do now. But then a look over to my right and see something that looks similar to the house symbol of the Lannister’s in Game of Thrones. So I figured that maybe I could go as one of the Lannister’s and I decided that I can go as Jaime Lannister because the other options like Tyrion and Cersei. Even though Tyrion is personally my favorite character. So I got the knight armor cloak thing with the sigil of the lion on it. I got a sword, a blonde wig and a pair of gloves even though I only needed one because Jaime got his hand cut off. That was about 15 minutes and costed me about 60 bucks. The things I do for friends. Anyway I got dropped off at my place so I could put on my costume which felt weird because the sigil costume was longer then I expected and I’m already short so that doesn’t help much and the blonde wig was really freaking itchy. We planned to all meet up at my friend’s house so we could all carpool and drive to the party. So after I put on my costume I went out and walked to my buddy’s house which was only two blocks away. I could still see some trick or treaters out with their parents but there wasn’t a lot. There was a lot of Star Wars kids which would explain why the Star Wars section of the Halloween store looked ransacked. I get to my buddy’s house and they are all already there waiting on me and so we go to my friend Joe’s party and the rest is history. I don’t really know how to start this. I don’t know how to start this because I’m a type of guy that wants to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but I also want to be informed and I want to know more about the information told to me. Now that brings me to the Republican Debate. I will be honest, I don’t really like any of the Republican candidates mostly because I don’t like their political stances and in the case of Donald Trump he’s a giant massive egomaniacal troll. He’s basically Biff from Back to the Future, but like I said I’m willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. With the recent Republican debate, I might have to tweak and adjust that assessment. Like many people across the US I tuned into the Republican Debate, the main event not the pre-show, and It was not the circus it was during the first debate with the I assume 56 presidential candidates that were there before because now we have I guess like 42? I don’t know, but it’s a lot. It still was a sideshow but an entertaining sideshow that didn’t have me cringing on my couch like the other debate had me doing. But this debate was still a sight to behold because the things they said made me want to smother myself with a pillow. I don’t even know where to start or even how to address the statements that they made that they wanted to further their political argument. I don’t know how to begin. Now before I dig deep into my soul and talk about this…thing I know that people think that the moderators were a little hard on the candidates which I can understand if their talking about a political bias, but if they want to become PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES they will have to take some tough questions. They complained when the debate was on Fox so I just don’t pay any attention to any they say. And I doubt that there is an “agnostic” moderator so Rubio and Cruz…stop bitching.
I’m going to start with what Carly Fiorina said about the 92%, yes I said 92%, I repeat THE 92% of the supposed job losses in President Obama’s first term belonged to women. Which was false because Mitt Romney tried to use that same argument during his presidential campaign and that was debunked three years ago. Ted Cruz also said something that was untrue when he said women’s wages have declined under Obama, when in fact the latest figures show their wages have increased. Donald Trump said that he never had criticized Marco Rubio and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg which also turned out to be false because he did criticize them both and the proof is ON HIS WEBSITE!!! The cojones that this guy has to be so bold and spew complete and utter bullshit is remarkable. And people buy it which makes it even more crazy. He also claimed that he was 100 percent self-funding his entire campaign. Which is also bullshit because MORE than HALF of the money from his campaign was raised from his supporters’ contributions. Ben Carson, who by the way sounds like he smoked too much pot who is that calm no one is that calm and relaxed it’s impossible his quiet voice gets on my nerves because it sounds like he’s talking in slow motion, maybe he has peanut butter in his mouth, but anyway he said that it was “total propaganda” to say he was involved with a controversial nutritional supplement company, but he appeared in promotional videos for the company, praising their products. Ben Carson was also the one that said that under the Nazis, "German citizens were disarmed by their government in the late 1930s," which allowed the Nazis to "carry out their evil intentions with relatively little resistance." This is a misreading of history on two levels. First, German citizens as a whole were not disarmed by the Nazis. Jews and other supposed enemies of the state were subject to having their weapons seized. But for most German citizens, the Nazi period was one in which gun regulations were loosened, not tightened. Second, a lack of guns was not the issue. If the majority of Germans had wanted to use these guns to fight the Nazis, they could have. But they didn’t. Carson ignores that the Nazis enjoyed significant popular support, or at least, broad acquiescence. Third, the Jewish citizens having weapons most likely wouldn’t have done anything because we’re talking about the same Nazi regime that took over France in about a month in a half. “The Battle of France” 10 May – 25 June 1940 (1 month and 15 days) which was a decisive victory where France had to surrender. So yeah Carson is full of shit too. Along with everyone else like Rubio who claimed that CNBC’s John Harwood was wrong that a Tax Foundation analysis of his tax plan found those in the top 1 percent of earners would get nearly twice the gain as those in the middle. Rubio would have been right if he wasn’t wrong and that Harwood was actually right, and that’s on a percentage basis. So in conclusion they are all full of shit and so let’s never do this again. This week 7 reflection is coming a little late. I have been battling a bad cold so the past week has been pretty rough. So I’m going to talk about the week prior to when this is going to be put up. Going back to last Monday. Last week we were all witnesses to something that most categorized as an event. It was not the god awful atrocious Monday Night Football game with the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. Which by the way if I can go off on a little rant, that Monday Night game was the worst sporting event I have ever witnessed. It was so bad that it hurt my eyeballs, like someone was pouring sugar and lemon into my cornea. They made it worse by losing the following week (yesterday) to the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are 6-0, but a team should have at least a higher chance of winning when the defense can come up with 3 picks in the first half. Let’s not forget the multiple drops by the wide outs and the terrible play by the offense in general. *Sigh*. Let’s just get past the Eagles because they are going to fly nowhere this season in that terrible NFC East division. We should discuss the biggest news of the month. No it’s not the death of *spoiler* in the Walking Dead and even though it is close it is not Back to the Future (Keep fighting Cubs keep fighting, the curse will be broken soon). The biggest news probably of the year was the epic return of Star Wars. Yep, that’s right Star Wars, Star Wars, it’s all about Star Wars.
Let’s be honest the only reason people tuned into that Monday Night Football game was because people wanted to see that Star Wars trailer at halftime. What other movie could have caused such a reaction like that. Now as someone who considers himself nerdy, I am obligated to be hyped for the newest installment of the Star Wars franchise or otherwise my black nerd card would be revoked. Now this is huge news if you are a huge Star Wars fan, a casual fan or a not a fan period because this one franchise has something that a lot of things don’t have. It has this huge nostalgia factor that has lasted for generations. When the first Star Wars movie came out back in 1977, Episode IV A New Hope, it was a revolutionary movie from its time and has become this large phenomenon and has influenced pop culture in a way that is arguably unmatched. The parents that took their kids to go see Star Wars back in the 70’s and 80’s and now those kids are grown up with kids of their own taking their own kids to go see the new Star Wars. Three generations of fans that want to see the continuation of this long running story where now Luke, Han and Leia are older now and now we have a new generation, as seen in the trailer, taking the reins. That’s pretty remarkable and me being the super nerd that I am, I am reading the Star Wars comics that Marvel is publishing and those comics are in the same canon with the movies. Same with the Star Wars Rebels TV show so there’s a lot to keep up with if you’re a huge fan. There’s already screenings for the Force Awakens that are sold out and the movie is like two months away. There was so much internet traffic throughout that entire Monday that it disrupted the servers of many movie websites like Fandango. Star Wars the Force Awakens is going to be that type of movie that people are going to have to see opening weekend or the movie would probably be spoiled that following Monday when it comes out. Yes, I am one of those people that already has tickets and no I’m not ashamed of this. December 18th is coming around fast and it’s going to be hard to find a great time to go see the new film because of the amount of people that want to see it. There’s so many numbers behind this that it is crazy. Star Wars the Force Awakens has established a new record, bypassing The Hunger Games to move the most tickets in its first day on sale, Fandango reports. It didn’t just surpass that picture, it shattered its benchmark, outselling “The Hunger Games” eight times over. Traffic to the online ticketer’s site surged to seven times more than its peak level in less than 24 hours. There are already sellouts, particularly in Imax screenings, and to meet the demand, movie theaters are continually adding show times, the online ticketer reports. Star Wars the Force Awakens” presales also broke every Imax record, generating over $6.5 million. The film eclipsed The Dark Knight Rises, The Hunger Games Catching Fire and Avengers, which each earned around $1 million for their first reported presales. Ticket sales followed a similar rabid trend, with the U.K.’s third-largest ticket operator reporting 10,000 tickets snatched up in the first 90 minutes alone. The Hollywood Reporter says 200,000 tickets ended up being sold in the first day, and some say that there could have been more if several sites haven’t had crashed from the high demand. The Hollywood Reporter, the trailer was watched online 112 million times in 24 hours, and since 16 million viewers were tuned into the Monday Night Football telecast where it debuted, that brings the total number of first-day views to 128 million. This shatters the previous record of 88 million views in 24 hours set by the second Star Wars teaser, which soared past the 55 million views in 24 hours the first teaser pulled in. The Force Awakens is the equally casual Usain Bolt of film trailers, apparently. I don’t know about anybody else but I’m pumped. One of the first live action movies that I ever fully remember was Jumanji and Star Wars so even though I wasn’t one of those kids that grew up in the 70’s and the 80’s with Star Wars there is still something of a personal attachment to it for me. I think it was Empire Strikes Back I think because my dad had all of these VHS tapes with hundreds of movies. Anyway we’ll see but as the super nerd that I am I can’t want to see the new film instead of just speculating. What do you guys think? Comment below and let me know. The most recent Democratic Debate was fairly interesting. Mostly it was the Bernie Sanders and Hilary Clinton show for the most part. To me this felt a lot more serious and less of a circus then the Republican Debate. Martin O’Malley was pretty meh, Lincoln Chafee seemed a bit lost and Jim Webb “didn’t have much time” to do anything and basically all three of them weren’t ready for something like this. People said that the debate was boring and too civil that’s why the ratings were down from the last event, but to me having less homophobic, racist and aborted fetus talk was just too much for my taste. I like it when things like politics and the opportunity to find the possibly new US leader of the free world who literally has the future of the country we live, yeah I taking seriously. No one or as I should say no logical person wants a guy (I’m not saying any names) that has bankrupted four companies, had ties to the Italian Mob (Salvatore Testa interesting story to know), says nothing but racist, homophobic, and sexist things and wasn’t even the coolest person on his own show and there’s a cooler show about “billionaire’s”, it’s called Shark Tank The highlight is obviously seeing the legendary Gandalf making an appearance to the debate. I didn’t know there were actual wizards, I mean did you see that guy’s beard? That’s more proof then I ever need, why is he running for president and whatever happened to DEEZ NUTZ? I guess we’ll never know? The debate was really interesting and if I can nitpick the only thing I didn’t like was CNN’s Las Vegas puns. Ok we get it, they’re having a debate in Vegas enough of the high stakes poker and boxing references.
This is more of a race about who’s going to be Hilary Clinton’s running mate or possibly Bernie Sanders running mate. I did liked about what Bernie Sanders said about free tuition because having something that is and should be free is always a good thing. People don’t give Bernie Sanders that much credit, maybe it an old guy thing, he did say some stuff I agree with and that I think most people agree with. I’m not saying he’s going to win because of it because you never know in situations like this, but for example when they talked about Edward Snowden and him going to Russia as a way to escape and they all said that he’s a traitor and blah blah blah. Except Bernie Sanders who stated the obvious that yes what he did was somewhat illegal but the same can be said about the NSA and how they are storing our personal and private phone calls. I liked the back and forth that Hilary and Bernie had, even when they had the conversation about her emails. Let’s be honest no one cares and I liked how Bernie basically spoke out what everyone was thinking. I also liked how they addressed climate change and jobs. It’s pretty simple to understand too. Pollution destroys our environment so by creating more green jobs that helps preserve our environment we are creating more jobs for the American people so that they can get a steady income which also helps our economy. Bernie Sanders did fall a little back on immigration and the gun issue. Hilary gave to what I think is the obvious answer. STOP LETTING THE NRA CONTROL OUR LAWS!!!! And that this whole thing about immigration isn’t as big of a deal as people make it out to be. They not rapists as some people want the American public to believe, they’re just here to make a living and support their family. And this country was built on and by immigrants that’s why the U.S is called a melting pot in the first place. All in all this debate really shown the overall power of Hilary Clinton and someone that put himself out there and is on the come up Bernie Sanders. It’s going to be interesting where this goes because Bernie is a pretty decent competitor from what I saw when they debated back and forth. This also shows that the other three don’t really have any shot whatsoever. http://www.nytimes.com/live/first-democratic-debate-cnn-election-2016/ http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2015/10/13/debate-democrats-clinton-sanders-las-vegas/73886464/ This is my week 4 reflection so let us begin. What’s the difference between growth mindset and fixed mindset? Both mindsets are vastly different. One considers intelligence to be already set and the other believes that intelligence can grow. Here is a brief description and a couple of examples that explain and differentiate the two.
A growth mindset and a fixed mindset are vastly different. People with a growth mindset believes that we can grow our intelligence while someone with a fixed mindset believes we were born with a certain amount of intelligence Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset. One values effort, learning and if set back works harder. Someone with a fixed mindset does not value effort, wants to look smart instead of going through the process of learning. Someone with a fixed mindset also gives up when a setback occurs. Studies have shown that someone with a growth mindset does better in school rather than someone with a fixed mindset. One study in particular shows that in certain situations someone with a growth mindset acts differently from someone with a fixed mindset. Scientists brought in a group of people to fill out and complete a test. When the test was completed and the answers were given it showed that the people with a growth mindset looked at the tests of students that did better as a way to gain more information from the test. The students with a fixed mindset look at the tests score of the students that did worse. When the instructor went over the answers the students with the growth mindset paid attention to what the answers were and the information about the answers, but the students with the fixed mindset zoned out after having already received the answers. Another study was conducted with rats in empty cages versus rats in stimulating, challenging cages and the rats in the challenging cages were more active and productive, How Growth Mindset Leads to Higher Achievement. There’s also the information about London taxi drivers whose hippocampus might be larger than a majority of other people because of “The Knowledge” taxi driver test, Growth Mindset: Studies Showing the Brain is Malleable. This test makes them memorize and know every single street in London. There was also the story about a group of students in the pottery class where the class was split in half. One half worked on one very detailed pot and the other half worked on just putting out as many pots as possible. When the teacher brought in pottery experts they said that the ones that worked on doing a large number of pots had the better ones because they made each pot creatively differently and expanded their mind doing so. Lastly the stories of John Legend, John Legend: Success Through Effort and the woman with the interests in robotics Student Success Stories. John Legend who worked for so many years to get a record deal and the woman who loved robotics who had a dream to work for NASA, but was told that she wasn’t good enough. Their perseverance made by John Legend, who worked for many years and nearly a decade without getting a record deal to now becoming one of the top music artists in the country and then there was the woman who loved robotics and worked her whole life to get to the point of where she is right now who is a person that IS now working for NASA. Having a fixed mindset isn’t predetermined. Mindsets can change and adapting a growth mindset can help students do better in school. When you have a growth mindset you are willing to learn and try new things. Sometimes people are afraid to try something new are afraid of making these mistakes. Learning these new things effectively means you need to make more mistakes. If you’re not making mistakes then you’re not trying hard enough, Why You Need to Fail to Succeed. Keep working because the more you work the more you can expand your mind,On Being Creative . If you keep working the hard things you work on won’t seem that hard and will get easier. For someone wanting to gain a growth mindset it is important to know that when things get difficult you DON’T GIVE UP. Push forward and keep trying because whatever seen as harder will be seen as something beneficial down the line. |
